San Miguel Electric Cooperative Announces New General Manager/CEO
at its South Texas Plant and Lignite Mine
CHRISTINE, Texas [April 26, 2021] – Following a six-month executive search, San Miguel Electric Cooperative (SMEC) has announced it has hired a new General Manager/CEO. Nathan Brown, who has more than 29 years of industry experience and a demonstrated history of success working with electric utilities, will become San Miguel’s eighth General Manager. San Miguel operates a lignite mine, which provides fuel for its power plant that produces 391 megawatts of affordable, reliable electricity for nine member cooperatives across 42 South Texas counties.
“Nathan’s extensive experience and expertise are perfectly suited to helping us continue our mission of providing safe, reliable power at the lowest possible cost to South Texans,” said SMEC Board President Kenneth White. Most recently, Nathan worked for Cooperative Energy, formerly South Mississippi Electric Power Association (SMEPA), where he held various positions throughout his 27 years with the cooperative, including Director of Transmission Planning, Manager of Power Supply and Senior Vice President and Chief Operative Officer. Prior to joining SMEPA in 1993, Nathan worked as an electric engineer for Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. |
Nathan is a registered professional engineer in the state of Mississippi and has earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in electric engineering from Mississippi State University. He is currently working on a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He will begin officially on May 21 as San Miguel’s new General Manager/CEO.
Outgoing General Manager Mike Kezar will continue to serve as General Manager of the South Texas Electric Cooperative and will serve on the San Miguel Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors.
